Professor Douwe van Sinderen is Full Professor of Molecular Microbiology in the School of Microbiology and a Principal Investigator and Founding member of the SFI-funded research centre APC Microbiome Ireland, both located at University College Cork, Ireland.

Research interests include bifidobacterial functional and comparative genomics, in particular pertaining to microbe-host interactions and carbohydrate metabolism. He is a co-author of nearly 600 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to 17 book chapters, acted as co-editor for 2 books, and is listed as an inventor on 24 patents.
