Dr Liisa Rantamäki joined the General Directorate Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) of the European Commission in 1998. She is the leader of a project covering audit on official controls related to the safety of milk and dairy products. Liisa has a broad professional experience auditing several control areas against EU legislative requitements. During her career as an auditor 1998-2024 she has been auditing national control systems over public health and animal health, import controls, feed safety and animal by-products carrying out audits both in the EU Member States and in Third Countries.

Her career before that comprised ten years in research and teaching covering veterinary microbiology and immunology and epidemiology at Justus-Liebig University (Giessen, Germany), Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Uppsala, Sweden) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (Helsinki, Finland). She has several publications as author and co-author in international scientific journals (e.g. Journal of Veterinary microbiology, Journal of Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, Infection and Immunology, The Gene, Journal of Dairy Research).
