Lisa Methven

Lisa Methven is Professor of Food and Sensory Science at the University of Reading and Director of the FoodBiosystems Doctoral Training Partnership in the UK. Her research focuses on sensory perception of foods and associations with food liking, food choice and dietary intake. Lisa’s research group pursue three main research themes. Firstly, to understand the influence of sensory perception on food choice across lifespan, from perception in children, through to improving the palatability of foods designed to meet the nutritional needs of older people. Secondly, in the arena of product reformulation, her research focuses on understanding and modifying perception and acceptability of foods designed to improve health. Finally, the group investigate the influence of genotypical and phenotypical differences in sensory perception and their impact on dietary choice.
